 Welcome back to OBX SEASON 5---Shooting Wednesday, July 2, 2025!! If you are new with OBX, this blog is where you will find out important information on what kind of costumes you should bring as a Background Actor on the show. 

Just a couple of housekeeping items to begin with......

-Please, be on time.  You will be checked in by the AD Department and fill out paperwork before we can look at you.  If you are late then the Costume Department does not get as much time to make sure you look great.  

-Always come dressed in your first, best choice of the descriptions for your character.   After reading the character descriptions that you will find here, make your best pick and wear it in.  However, you will ALWAYS be expected to bring multiple options with you so that we can make the final choices.  The final choices will be made by the Costume Dept.  Please respect that we have the overview of the day and the show, and do not complain about what we ask you to wear. Solid colors, wide stripes, plaids, and large scale prints are great! Some color is good, as long as it isn't neon. Please do not include items with narrow stripes, neons, glitter, sequins, uncomfortable shoes, and clothing with large logos & graphics/ trademarked characters (giant Nike symbols, Star Wars tees, etc). Please avoid solid bright white items. On this particular show, simple logos are okay as long as it is mainly wording/ lettering/ phrases (not large pieces of artwork).

- It is MANDATORY that you read this blog before coming to work EVERY TIME YOU WORK.

CART KOOK

Please bring outfit options that are appropriate for golfing during the summer, such as polos or other collared shirts (please bring pastel options if you have them), shorts, trousers, sneakers, and golf shoes if you have them. Please also bring belts in multiple color options. Feel free to bring accessories that can complete a look, such as hats and watches (not Apple watches). Some brands that work well for the Kook characters are Vineyard Vines, Southern Tide, Lilly Pulitzer, Rainbows and Sperry. These are the most colorful characters on the show. DEPUTIES

Please bring a white crew neck t-shirt and black tactical boots if you have them.

PELICAN BAR KOOKS

Please bring brightly colored summer outfit options, including tanks, t-shirts, polos, short-sleeve and long sleeve button downs, blouses, shorts, lightweight pants, and dresses/rompers. Think beach bar vibes. Bring casual shoes, like sandals, boat shoes and sneakers. Remember, kooks are the wealthy, preppy members of Kildare, so please bring options that match this aesthetic. Feel free to bring accessories that complete a look, like purses, jewelry, belts, watches and hats. Take a look at the pictures below for inspiration!

PELICAN BAR POGUES

Please bring casual summer outfit options, including tanks, t-shirts, well-worn button-up layers, shorts, lightweight pants, and dresses/rompers. Bring casual shoes, like sandals and sneakers. Remember, the pogues are the lower-class individuals in Kildare, so their clothing may have a more dated, grungy, casual look. Feel free to bring accessories that complete a look, like bags, belts, hats and simple everyday jewelry. If your role is specified as being a “Shrimper” please bring fishing clothing, which would likely be well-worn, as well as white rubber boots if you have them. SERVERS

KITCHEN WORKERS

Please bring crew neck t-shirts in muted, solid colors and casual kitchen/chef pants if you have them.

It is ok if these shirts have wear and tear or some staining.

Please also bring closed-toe work shoes appropriate for working in a kitchen. An apron will be provided for you.

THERAPIST

Please bring professional clothing options, including long sleeve polos, long sleeve button up collared shirts, sweater vests, suit jackets, and chinos or khakis. Please bring comfortable shoes that you could wear in an office. Feel free to bring accessories that can complete a look, like briefcases/laptop bags, ties, bowties, watches and belts.

PARK PEDESTRIANS

Please bring colorful summer outfit options, including tanks, t-shirts, short sleeve button-up, lightweight blouses, shorts, lightweight pants, skirts, rompers and dresses. Please also bring shoe options, such as sneakers, sandals or other casual shoes. If you have Rainbow flip flops, please bring these as one of your shoe options. Make sure to bring accessories that can complete a look, like purses, hats, non-mirrored sunglasses, belts, watches and jewelry. Take a look at the pictures below for some inspiration!

SERVER

Please bring casual black pants, black polos, and solid black t-shirts. Please bring casual black closed-toe shoe options as well. An apron will be provided for you. In case you are selected to be a park pedestrians instead of a server, please bring a couple options that fit that description as well. (see above pictures)

Please bring your Sunday best for church, including suits, dress shirts, sport coats, dresses, skirts and blouses, as well as heels, dressy sandals, and dress shoes for men. Please also bring accessories that can complete a look, like ties, belts, watches, jewelry and purses.

STORE OWNER

For men, please bring a long sleeve button down collared shirt, chinos or khakis, a belt and some nice work-appropriate shoes. For women, please bring a button down collared work shirt or a professional blouse, work pants or a nice skirt, and business dress options. Please have at least 3 total business casual outfit options with you. Please also bring comfortable work shoes. Feel free to bring accessories that can complete a look, like ties, belts, watches, and jewelry.

ELECTRICAL LINEMEN

Please bring worn out t-shirts, button up work shirts, lightweight flannels and sunshirts - dirt and stains are ok! Please also bring jeans or work pants and steel-toed work boots. A high-vis vest will be provided for you. Take a look at the pictures below for inspiration!

POGUES FISHING

These are people who were born and raised by the ocean. Super worn in clothes that you have been fishing in for years.  Dirt and stains are great!   

Men/Women--Old Tees and Tanks, worn in button down shirts, sun shirts, fishing vests, dirty old jeans, shorts, fishing pants, cargo shorts/pants. Work boots, flip flops or old sneakers. Old fishing hats and baseball hats. Please bring accessories that help complete a look, like old bandanas/gaiters and sunglasses. Take a look at the pictures below for inspiration!
