  Welcome back to OBX SEASON 5---Shooting Friday, August 29, 2025!! If you are new with OBX, this blog is where you will find out important information on what kind of costumes you should bring as a Background Actor on the show. 

Just a couple of housekeeping items to begin with......

-Please, be on time.  You will be checked in by the AD Department and fill out paperwork before we can look at you.  If you are late then the Costume Department does not get as much time to make sure you look great.  

-Always come dressed in your first, best choice of the descriptions for your character.   After reading the character descriptions that you will find here, make your best pick and wear it in.  However, you will ALWAYS be expected to bring multiple options with you so that we can make the final choices.  The final choices will be made by the Costume Dept.  Please respect that we have the overview of the day and the show, and do not complain about what we ask you to wear. Solid colors, wide stripes, plaids, and large scale prints are great! Some color is good, as long as it isn't neon. Please do not include items with narrow stripes, neons, glitter, sequins, uncomfortable shoes, and clothing with large logos & graphics/ trademarked characters (giant Nike symbols, Star Wars tees, etc). Do not bring any graphics that reference Charleston or South Carolina. Please avoid solid bright white items. On this particular show, simple logos are okay as long as it is mainly wording/ lettering/ phrases (not large pieces of artwork).

PLAINCLOTHES OFFICERS

Please bring casual summer outfit options, avoid overly bright colors or loud patterns. Good items to bring include t-shirts, lightweight button downs, casual blouses, shorts, jeans/pants, and casual dresses. Please also bring casual shoe options, like sandals or sneakers. COUNTRY CLUB PATRONS

Please bring preppy summer outfit options, including blouses, polos, short and long sleeve button downs, shorts, trousers, skirts, rompers and dresses. Please also bring shoes such as clean sneakers, boat shoes, sandals and comfortable heels. Think pastels and preppy prints, like stripes, gingham, florals and plaids, but avoid very thin stripes. Some brands that work well for Kooks are Vineyard Vines, Lilly Pulitzer, Simply Southern and Sperry. Feel free to bring accessories that can complete a look, such as sunglasses, hats, belts, watches and bags/purses. Take a look at the pictures below for inspiration!

KOOK TENNIS PLAYERS

Please bring preppy athletic tennis clothes, such as polos, solid color wicking t-shirts, athletic and regular shorts, and for women sleeveless polos, tennis skirts or tennis dresses. Please also bring clean tennis shoes and accessories, like visors, sunglasses and watches. Take a look at the pictures below for inspiration!

TENNIS CLUB STAFF

Please bring shorts and pants options in navy blue, gray and black. Please also bring belts and clean tennis shoes with socks. Avoid neon colors for shoes. A shirt will be provided for you.

BARTENDERS/SERVERS

Please bring shorts options of any kind (denim, cargo, other colors/patterns). Well-worn, distressed clothing is good, stay away from pastels or neons. Please also bring comfortable, closed-toe shoe options, like well-worn sneakers (Vans, Converse...). A uniform shirt will be provided for you.

PATRONS

These are people who were born and raised by the ocean, and people who live and work in the Outer Banks. Blue collar types. Keep it casual - think super worn in clothes that you have been fishing in for years.  Dirt and stains are great! These people aren't thinking about fashion.  

Men/Women--Please bring your most worn-in t-shirts and tanks, worn in button down shirts, dirty old jeans, shorts, fishing pants, boardshorts.  Work boots, old sneakers, or beat up flip flops. Old fishing hats and baseball hats, bandanas, neck gaiters, sunglasses and croquis.
