Welcome back to shooting Monday -- July 22, 2019! If you are new with OBX, this blog is where you will find out important information on what kind of costumes you should bring as a Background Actor on the show.
Just a couple of housekeeping items to begin with......
-Please, be on time. You will be checked in by the AD Department and fill out paperwork before we can look at you. If you are late then the Costume Department does not get as much time to make sure you look great.
-Always come dressed in your first, best choice of the descriptions for your character. After reading the character descriptions that you will find here, make your best pick and wear it in. However, you will ALWAYS be expected to bring multiple options with you so that we can make the final choices. The final choices will be made by the Costume Dept. Please respect that we have the overview of the day and the show, and do not complain about what we ask you to wear. Solid colors, wide stripes, plaids, and large scale prints are great! Some color is good, as long as it isn't super bright or neon. Please do not include items with narrow stripes, busy patterns, neons, glitter, sequins, expensive or special jewelry, uncomfortable shoes, and clothing with large logos & graphics/ trademarked characters (giant nike symbols, star wars tees, etc). On this particular show, simple logos are okay as long as it is mainly wording/ lettering/ phrases (not large pieces of artwork).
- It is MANDATORY that you read this blog before coming to work EVERY TIME YOU WORK.
Please read below for more information on what you should bring based on your character:
Neighbors/ND Pedestrians:
Men- please bring flip flops, sneakers, tshirts, short sleeve button front shirts, shorts, baseball hats, and sunglasses.
Women- please bring shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, casual summer dresses, sandals, sneakers, and flip flops, sunglasses, and casual purses.
Law Office Receptionist:
Please bring casual, small town business attire. For the women: blouses, button down shirts, skirts or dress pants with a blazer/jacket or a casual work appropriate dress (nothing too dressy) and shoes to go with your ensembles. For men: button down shirts with a tie, dress slacks or khakis, a casual jacket if you have one, and shoes to go with the ensembles you bring.
Law Office Interviewer:
Please bring business attire. Men/Women: suits, dress shirts or blouses, skirt suits, dress slacks, blazers, ties and conservative dress shoes.
Adult Kooks / Teen Kooks:
These are our Outer Banks upper crust people. Think preppy casual & out for a day on the boat. Some brands that work well for the Kook characters are Vineyard Vines, Southern Tide, Ralph Lauren, Lily Pulitzer, Rainbows, & Sperrys. These are the most colorful characters on the show so please take a look at the inspiration photos below and bring items along those lines.
Men- please bring polos, button down shirts, sun shirts, bright colored swimsuits/swim trunks, khaki and bright colored shorts, baseball hats, visors, croakies, flip-flops and boat shoes.
Women- please bring bathing suits, tanks, polos, skirts, shorts, sundresses, rompers, coverups, sandals, boat shoes, sunglasses, casual purses, and hats.
Adult Pogues / Teen Pogues:
These are the folks who live and work in the Outer Banks. Blue collar types. Keep it casual- cut off shorts and the shirt you throw on to cut the grass is just perfect. Also feel free to bring anything with personality- worn in overalls, beat up bucket hats, old fishing shirts etc. Please take a look at the inspiration photos below and bring items along those lines.
Men- please bring your most worn in t-shirts and tanks, faded swimsuits and shorts, old hats, sunglasses, beat up sneakers and flip flops.
Women- please bring your most worn in t-shirts and tanks, faded swimsuits, old shorts and skirts, super casual dresses, sunglasses, beat up sneakers, flips flops, sandals, and casual purses.
Tourist Adults / Tourist Teens:
This is the vacation crowd. Typical beachwear.
Men- please bring board shorts or swim trunks, flip flops, tshirts, short sleeve button front shirts, shorts, baseball hats, and sunglasses.
Women- please bring shorts, tank tops, bathing suits & coverups, sun hats, casual summer dresses, sandals and flip flops, sunglasses, and casual purses.
Mini Mart Employees:
Please bring casual clothing... jeans, khakis, polos, t-shirts, and button down shirts, casual shoes and sneakers. If you have tattoos please bring something to cover them. And no sleeveless shirts.
Deputy:
Please bring white crew neck t-shirt and black tactical boots.
Storm Clean-Up Workers:
Typical outdoor workwear. Heavily worn t-shirts, button down work shirts, long jeans or dickies style work pants, work boots if you have them and dirty old sneakers if you do not. Baseball or straw hats... Old, stained clothing is preferred!
Please bring hard hats if you have them.
