 Welcome back to OBX SEASON 5---Shooting Friday, June 20, 2025!! If you are new with OBX, this blog is where you will find out important information on what kind of costumes you should bring as a Background Actor on the show. 

Just a couple of housekeeping items to begin with......

-Please, be on time.  You will be checked in by the AD Department and fill out paperwork before we can look at you.  If you are late then the Costume Department does not get as much time to make sure you look great.  

-Always come dressed in your first, best choice of the descriptions for your character.   After reading the character descriptions that you will find here, make your best pick and wear it in.  However, you will ALWAYS be expected to bring multiple options with you so that we can make the final choices.  The final choices will be made by the Costume Dept.  Please respect that we have the overview of the day and the show, and do not complain about what we ask you to wear. Solid colors, wide stripes, plaids, and large scale prints are great! Some color is good, as long as it isn't neon. Please do not include items with narrow stripes, neons, glitter, sequins, uncomfortable shoes, and clothing with large logos & graphics/ trademarked characters (giant Nike symbols, Star Wars tees, etc). Please avoid solid bright white items. On this particular show, simple logos are okay as long as it is mainly wording/ lettering/ phrases (not large pieces of artwork).

- It is MANDATORY that you read this blog before coming to work EVERY TIME YOU WORK.

DEPUTIES/CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS

Please bring a white crew neck t-shirt and black tactical boots if you have them. A uniform shirt, pants and belt will be provided for you.

LIBRARY VISITORS

Please bring casual summer outfit options, such as t-shirts, lightweight button ups, blouses, shorts, skirts, lightweight pants, rompers and dresses. Please also bring casual, comfortable shoe options, like sneakers or sandals. If you have Rainbow flip flops, please bring these as one of your shoe options. Feel free to bring accessories that can complete a look, such as purses/tote bags, hats and jewelry. Take a look at the pictures below for some inspiration!

THERAPIST

Please bring professional clothing options, including long sleeve polos, long sleeve button up collared shirts, sweater vests, suit jackets, and chinos or khakis. Please bring comfortable shoes that you could wear in an office. Feel free to bring accessories that can complete a look, like briefcases/laptop bags, ties, bowties, watches and belts.

PARK PEDESTRIANS

Please bring colorful summer outfit options, including tanks, t-shirts, short sleeve button-up, lightweight blouses, shorts, lightweight pants, skirts, rompers and dresses. Please also bring shoe options, such as sneakers, sandals or other casual shoes. If you have Rainbow flip flops, please bring these as one of your shoe options. Make sure to bring accessories that can complete a look, like purses, hats, non-mirrored sunglasses, belts, watches and jewelry. Take a look at the pictures below for some inspiration!

SERVER

Please bring casual black pants, black polos, and solid black t-shirts. Please bring casual black closed-toe shoe options as well. An apron will be provided for you. In case you are selected to be a park pedestrians instead of a server, please bring a couple options that fit that description as well. (see above pictures)

You are playing wealthy, preppy townspeople. Some brands that work well for the Kook characters are Vineyard Vines, Southern Tide, Lilly Pulitzer, Rainbows and Sperrys. These are the most colorful and put together characters on the show. 

Please bring your Sunday best for church, including suits, dress shirts, sport coats, dresses, skirts and blouses, as well as heels, dressy sandals, and dress shoes for men. Please also bring accessories that can complete a look, like ties, belts, watches, jewelry and purses.

STORE OWNER

For men, please bring a long sleeve button down collared shirt, chinos or khakis, a belt and some nice work-appropriate shoes. For women, please bring a button down collared work shirt or a professional blouse, work pants or a nice skirt, and business dress options. Please have at least 3 total business casual outfit options with you. Please also bring comfortable work shoes. Feel free to bring accessories that can complete a look, like ties, belts, watches, and jewelry.

ELECTRICAL LINEMEN

Please bring worn out t-shirts, button up work shirts, lightweight flannels and sunshirts - dirt and stains are ok! Please also bring jeans or work pants and steel-toed work boots. A high-vis vest will be provided for you. Take a look at the pictures below for inspiration!

KOOKS ON BOARDWALK

If you have Rainbow flip flops, please bring these as one of your shoe options. Also, if you have a maxi dress, please bring this as one of your 3 outfit options. Please also bring accessories that can complete a look, like non-mirrored sunglasses/croakies, hats, belts, watches, jewelry and purses.

POGUES FISHING

These are people who were born and raised by the ocean. Super worn in clothes that you have been fishing in for years.  Dirt and stains are great!   

Men/Women--Old Tees and Tanks, worn in button down shirts, sun shirts, fishing vests, dirty old jeans, shorts, fishing pants, cargo shorts/pants. Work boots, flip flops or old sneakers. Old fishing hats and baseball hats. Please bring accessories that help complete a look, like old bandanas/gaiters and sunglasses. Take a look at the pictures below for inspiration!

You are playing preppy middle school aged kids. Some brands that work well for the Kook characters are Vineyard Vines, Southern Tide, Rainbows and Sperrys. These are the most colorful characters on the show. 

Please bring summer outfit options, including t-shirts, polos, casual short-sleeve button-ups, lightweight long-sleeve button ups, shorts (colorful and khaki), sandals, boat shoes and sneakers. Bring your shirt and shorts options in solid colors as well as patterns if you have them, but avoid original artwork and large logos. If you have any Rainbow flip flops, please bring them as an option. Please also bring accessories, like non-mirrored sunglasses, hats and belts.

Please bring casual pants & shorts options, including denim and khakis as well as other solid colors. If you have shorts options in various lengths, please bring a few different options. Please also bring accessories like belts and everyday jewelry.

WRECK SERVERS/BARTENDER:

We will be providing T-shirts. 

Men--Please bring casual pants, shorts and sneakers. The more plain and casual the better!

Women--Please bring casual pants, shorts, very casual denim or khaki skirts and sneakers. See reference photo below:

WRECK PARTONS:

These are the folks who live and work in the Outer Banks. Blue collar types. Keep it casual- cut off shorts and the shirt you throw on to cut the grass is just perfect. Also feel free to bring anything with personality- worn in overalls, beat up bucket hats, old fishing shirts etc. Please take a look at the inspiration photos below and bring items along those lines. 

Men- please bring your most worn in t-shirts and tanks, faded swimsuits and shorts, old hats, sunglasses, beat up sneakers and flip flops.

Women- please bring your most worn in t-shirts and tanks, faded swimsuits, old shorts and skirts, super casual dresses, sunglasses, beat up sneakers, flips flops, sandals, and casual purses.

BOATER TYPES:

These are our Outer Banks Kooks...aka wealthy, preppy teenagers out on the beach for an all day and all night bonfire party and camp out. 

Fun, beachy casual party clothes, swimsuits and lightweight layers for the night scenes. 

Some brands that work well for the Kook characters are Vineyard Vines, Southern Tide, Ralph Lauren, Lily Pulitzer, Rainbows, & Sperrys. These are the most colorful characters on the show so please take a look at the inspiration photos below and bring items along those lines.

Men- polos, button down shirts, sun shirts, bright colored swimsuits/swim trunks, khaki and bright colored shorts, baseball hats, visors, croakies, flip-flops and boat shoes. 

Women- bathing suits, tanks, polos, skirts, shorts, rompers, coverups, sandals, boat shoes, sunglasses, casual purses, and hats.

TOURISTS:

This is the vacation crowd. Typical beachwear.

Men- please bring board shorts or swim trunks, flip flops, tshirts, short sleeve button front shirts, shorts, baseball hats, and sunglasses.

Women- please bring shorts, tank tops, bathing suits & coverups, sun hats, casual summer dresses, sandals and flip flops, sunglasses, and casual purses.

HEYWARDS WORKERS:

These people are down and dirty worker types. They work outside in the sun all day so we want to make sure the clothing is as lightweight as possible. The saddest, most worn out old sneakers, wellies, shorts, T-shirts, work shirts, sun shirts, fishing shirts, dirty old tank tops, hats and sunglasses.  Cargo utility or dickies type pants.  The more worn in the better!
